Moving Your Own Scotiabank Interac Limit Before You Deposit

Interac e-Transfer participantRecord reviewed September 2026 · By

Can you use Scotiabank to deposit at and withdraw from online casinos?

Yes, by Interac e-Transfer. What sending costs depends on your plan: Free (Preferred/Ultimate Package) or $1.50 per transaction (Basic Banking). Card and debit payments to gambling merchants are less predictable and sometimes declined.

Scotiabank is the one institution here that hands you the controls. It publishes no limit figure at all, which is frustrating, but it lets you move your own with a slider in the app and then phone for more, which nobody else in this set does. Its Revolving Credit Agreement also puts online gambling in writing, among the grounds on which it may restrict a credit account.

✓Interac e-Transfer · Free (Preferred/Ultimate Package) or $1.50 per transaction (Basic Banking) · Auto-Deposit

Which casinos take Interac does not vary by bank, so there is no Scotiabank shortlist here. The same operators accept e-Transfer from every participating institution: the main Interac casino comparison.

You Almost Certainly Cannot Cancel a Scotiabank Casino Deposit

Free, but conditional, and the condition is the one that matters at a casino cashier: a processor registered for Autodeposit takes the option away entirely.

What cancelling costsNo fee to stop a pending transfer

Steps

  1. Sign in to Scotia OnLine or Scotiabank Mobile Banking
  2. Go to Transfers, then Interac e-Transfer
  3. Select "Show pending Interac e-Transfers"
  4. Click the red X beside the transfer
  5. Choose the account for the reclaimed funds and confirm

A casino payment processor registers for Interac Autodeposit, because it has to take thousands of transfers without answering a security question each time, and that registration is the condition above. Interac Corp puts the general rule this way:

Once a deposit has been made there is no way to reverse the transaction.

Treat a deposit as final the moment you confirm it, and check the amount and recipient name on the confirmation screen. A deposit you regret is a conversation with the operator, not with Scotiabank.

Raising Your Scotiabank Limit Yourself

Scotiabank is the one record here where you can move your own e-Transfer limit with a slider, without phoning anyone, up to a ceiling it does not publish.

Scotiabank publishes no figure at all, and is explicit that there is one limit rather than separate online and mobile ones: "It's the daily limit for all your Interac e-Transfers made through online or mobile banking."

Scotiabank Puts This in Writing

Where we found no published card term, a card-payment status on this site is our editorial reading. Scotiabank is different: the clauses below are quoted from its own Scotiabank Revolving Credit Agreement, effective 1 May 2020.

"Cash-Like Transaction" means a transaction that is similar to cash or convertible into cash (monetary transactions) and includes wire transfers, foreign currency, traveler's cheques, money orders, remote stored value and gaming transactions (including off-track betting, race track wagers, gaming chips and some lottery tickets). Scotiabank American Express credit card accounts are not presently accepted for the purchase of lottery tickets or gaming chips. A Cash-Like Transaction is treated as a Cash Advance.

The blocking clause. Scotiabank Revolving Credit Agreement, effective 1 May 2020 (PDF), read 2026-09-27 (a published agreement or fee schedule)
Interest is payable on Cash Advances on a credit card (including Balance Transfers, Scotia Credit Card Cheques and Cash-Like Transactions)
What that classification costs. Scotiabank Revolving Credit Agreement, effective 1 May 2020 (PDF), read 2026-09-27 (a published agreement or fee schedule)

Two consequences worth separating. A charge treated as a cash advance carries interest from the day it posts, with no interest-free period, so a card deposit you intended to pay off in full still costs interest. And Scotiabank has reserved the right to block it, so a decline is the agreement working rather than a fault.

None of it reaches Interac e-Transfer, which is not a card transaction and is not governed by a card agreement. How the Interac rails work.

Scotiabank: Card Payments vs Interac e-Transfer

Card deposits sometimes declined

Scotiabank's Revolving Credit Agreement treats gaming transactions as Cash-Like, and lists being required by law in relation to online gambling among its grounds for restricting a credit account. Interac e-Transfer is a separate rail and is not covered by that agreement.

Unusually, this one is not only our reading. Scotiabank addresses gambling in its own card agreement, and we quote the clauses further down: what the card agreement says. A decline itself carries no fee and no mark on your account.

Interac e-Transfer is a different rail, so the gambling merchant-category policy above does not reach it. How the Interac rails and processors work.

  • Did the payment fail at the casino cashier, on a card? If yes: That is a card decline, not an Interac problem. Gambling merchants carry their own card-network category code. TD, RBC, Scotiabank and CIBC all reserve the right in their card agreements to block transactions they identify as internet gambling. A decline costs nothing and leaves no mark. Interac e-Transfer runs on a different rail and is not covered by those clauses.
  • Did your banking app refuse to send the amount? If yes: You hit your own send limit. Limits are set per institution and are usually rolling windows rather than calendar days, so a transfer you sent yesterday afternoon can still be using up today. Read your remaining headroom in Scotiabank before you retry, and split the deposit if you have to.
  • Did the money leave your account but the casino shows nothing? If yes: Almost always the deposit reference. A processor matches your transfer to the transaction you started in the cashier using a unique ID typed into the message field. Gigadat lists a missing, mistyped or reused ID, a different amount than you selected, sending without starting a transaction first, and arriving outside the 24-hour window as the reasons a deposit fails. None of those are visible from your side, which is why the cashier looks broken.
  • Is it a payout that has not arrived yet? If yes: Check the clock before you chase anyone. ATB publishes a fraud delay of up to 30 minutes on an Autodeposit transfer, particularly the first one from a sender you have no history with. Gigadat processes payouts Monday to Friday only and says a transfer can take up to one business day. A Friday-night request is a Monday event.
  • Did you get a security question you cannot answer? If yes: The answer was sent to you, separately. A processor sends a unique security answer by email or SMS for each payout, to whichever address is on your operator profile. Gigadat cancels the transfer after three wrong answers and returns the funds to the operator, which should credit your casino balance back within 24 hours.
  • Still nothing? Now it is worth a call. Reconcile the amount and date against your own transaction history first. Then contact the operator, because the operator is the merchant. Contact your bank through a number on your card or the message centre in your app, never a number from an email or a search result about the charge.

Setting Up Autodeposit at Scotiabank, and What It Changes

Scotiabank's cancellation article is where its Autodeposit position actually bites, so the two are read together below.

How to register

  1. Read your current limit first: Manage My Accounts, then Profile, then Manage ScotiaCard & Account Access, then "Fastcash account setting & ScotiaCard limits".

Our note for casino players

Enable Auto-Deposit in the Scotiabank app so payouts arrive without you having to log in and accept each one. Scotiabank is the one record here where you can move your own e-Transfer limit with a slider: More, Profile and settings, Manage transaction limits.

App menu paths shift between releases; look for Interac e-Transfer settings.

Registering is also what makes a transfer uncancellable from the sender side, which is exactly why a casino processor does it. Account verification and payouts.

What We Went Looking For at Scotiabank and Could Not Find

Short list, which is the good outcome. These are the Scotiabank questions we could not answer from a published page. The sections above cite 4 separate documents.

  • Any Scotiabank figure for a per-transfer, daily, weekly or monthly e-Transfer limit, or for the in-app slider ceiling.
  • A Scotiabank statement on how long an unclaimed transfer stays available.

If Scotiabank publishes any of this and we missed it, that is a bug in our research rather than a statement about Scotiabank. Tell us where it is and we will cite it.
